Luigi's Mansion 3 Guide: 9 Tips to Catch Ghosts
The Last Resort hotel is haunted, your friends are trapped in paintings, and your only weapon is a vacuum. Master the flash, the Slam, and Gooigi, and every spooky floor in this Luigi's Mansion 3 guide turns from scary to satisfying.
๐ป 1. Start Scared, Then Learn the Hotel
Luigi's Mansion 3 begins as a holiday gone wrong: King Boo traps Mario, Peach, and the Toads, and Luigi explores the Last Resort floor by floor to find missing elevator buttons. Each button comes from a boss ghost on a themed floor, from the grand lobby to a movie studio, a castle, and a dance hall.
Go slow on every new floor. Vacuum curtains, spin fans, pull sheets, and open every drawer โ the hotel hides money, hearts, and gems in places that look like decoration. If you love gentle exploration between action games, our Pikmin 4 guide rewards the same patient, check-every-corner habit.
New to the adventure? Start with Luigi's Mansion 3 on your Nintendo Switch, and take the tutorial fights seriously โ the game teaches every move you will need for its hardest bosses.
๐ฆ 2. The Poltergust G-00 Moves That Matter
Almost every puzzle and fight is a combination of six tools. Learn what each one is for and the hotel stops feeling mysterious.
| Move | What It Does | Use It When |
|---|---|---|
| Strobulb Flash | Stuns a ghost so you can vacuum it | A ghost is facing you and not mid-attack |
| Vacuum & Blow | Pulls or pushes objects, curtains, and ghosts | Clearing rooms, revealing doors, fighting ghosts |
| Slam | Slams a vacuumed ghost side to side for big damage | Your suction meter is full during a capture |
| Burst | A jump of air that pushes ghosts and objects away | You are surrounded or need breathing room |
| Suction Shot | Fires a plunger that sticks, then pulls hard | Breaking shields, toilets, panels, and held objects |
| Dark-Light Device | Reveals invisible objects and ghost trails | A door, chest, or Boo trail seems to be missing |
The golden rule of combat: flash first, vacuum second, Slam third. Pull away from a ghost's escape direction, fill the meter, then Slam repeatedly until it pops into the Poltergust.
๐ข 3. Gooigi Solves What Luigi Cannot
Partway through the story you unlock Gooigi, a gooey double who can slip through grates, drains, and spiked floors that stop Luigi cold. He melts in water and Rain, so keep him away from showers, puddles, and sprinklers.
Most two-character puzzles follow one pattern: send Gooigi through a grate to open a path, flip a switch, or stand on a platform, then bring Luigi through the door Gooigi opened. In co-op, a second player can control Gooigi directly โ a comfortable setup if you use a Nintendo Switch Pro Controller for the second player.
Stuck in a room with no obvious exit? Before you leave, try three things in order: Dark-Light the walls, send Gooigi through any grate, and vacuum anything that rattles.
๐ 4. Gems, Money, and Boss Floors
Every floor hides six gems, one in each color shape for that floor's theme. You do not need them to finish the story, but hunting them teaches you each floor's secrets and funds useful purchases at Professor E. Gadd's lab, including items that help you find collectibles and revive after a fall.
- Vacuum everything: money pours out of furniture, plants, and luggage.
- Watch for rats and spiders: small creatures often carry coins or reveal hidden paths when startled.
- Flash hidden sparkles: a quick Strobulb check can expose concealed objects and trails.
- Revisit old floors: new tools open rooms you had to skip the first time.
Boss ghosts each guard an elevator button and each fight is a small puzzle. If a boss will not take damage, stop vacuuming and watch: you are usually missing a Suction Shot target, a flash window, or something in the room you need to blow, pull, or break first. For another game built on reading bosses patiently, see our Mario Kart 8 Deluxe guide for a lighter break, then come back fresh.
๐จ 5. Boos, ScareScraper, and Staying Alive
After you clear floors, Boos begin hiding around the hotel. Your controller vibration and Gooigi's reaction grow stronger as you near one โ sweep the room slowly, Dark-Light suspicious objects, and be ready for a fast chase when the Boo bolts.
Low on hearts? Burst destructible furniture, check planters, and vacuum piles of leaves or papers. In a tough fight, survive first and capture second: dodge charges, use Burst for space, and only commit to a vacuum when the ghost is truly stunned.
Want a multiplayer change of pace? ScareScraper sends a team through floors of ghosts and objectives against the clock, while the main story's co-op lets a friend drop in as Gooigi at almost any time. Players who enjoy cozy teamwork will also love the ideas in our Super Mario Bros. Wonder guide and Animal Crossing: New Horizons guide.
