Hades II Guide: 9 Tips to Beat Chronos Faster
Chronos feels impossible until your Magick, dash and boons start working together. This Hades II guide gives Melinoë a clear plan — master Omega moves, build real synergy, and make every night count.
1. Learn the New Basics: Dash, Sprint and Magick
Hades II is not just the first game with a new hero. Melinoë has a single dash, a hold-to-sprint, and a Magick bar that powers her Omega moves — and learning how those three fit together is tip one, two and three in one.
- Dash, then sprint: tap to dash through danger, hold to sprint out of a bad spot. Sprinting into enemies with certain boons even deals damage.
- Omega moves are your heavy tools: hold Attack, Special or Cast to charge the Omega version. They cost Magick, so do not spam them on empty rooms.
- Your Cast is a trap now: it snares enemies in a circle. Drop it, step back, and hit the trapped group safely — especially early on.
If the sequel feels harder than our Hades beginner guide, this is why: you are managing one resource more. Give it three nights and the rhythm clicks.
2. Pick a Weapon You Understand, Then Stick With It
The Nocturnal Arms all work, but switching every run slows your learning. Pick one, learn its Omega pattern, and take it deep for several nights in a row.
| Weapon | Playstyle | Best first lesson |
|---|---|---|
| Witch's Staff | Balanced melee and ranged Omega blast | The safest starter — learn spacing and Omega timing |
| Sister Blades | Fast, close, backstab-friendly | Dash behind enemies; do not trade hits face to face |
| Umbral Flames | Ranged, kiting, Magick-hungry | Keep moving and let the flames do the work |
| Moonstone Axe | Slow, heavy, blocking Special | Patience — one big hit beats three panicked ones |
| Argent Skull | Ranged shells you retrieve | Plan your pickups; never chase a shell into a crowd |

3. Build Around One Idea Per Run
Boons from Zeus, Poseidon, Apollo, Demeter, Aphrodite, Hephaestus, Hestia and others are strongest when they serve one plan. A focused build beats a grab-bag almost every time.
- Choose your core: is this run about your Attack, your Special, your Cast, or Omega damage? Feed that slot first.
- Magick in, Magick out: if your plan leans on Omega moves, take a Magick-regeneration boon early or the plan stalls in long fights.
- Stay near or stay far: Aphrodite rewards close range, Apollo and Poseidon help at distance — do not mix a close-range core with a stay-away habit.
That one-idea discipline is the same lesson behind our Vampire Survivors evolution guide: synergy first, souvenirs later.
4. Use the Altar: Arcana Cards and Grasp
At the Altar of Ashes, Arcana Cards give permanent run bonuses — more health, more Magick, Death Defiance and more — but each card costs Grasp, and your Grasp is limited at first.
Spend Ashes to unlock cards and Psyche to raise your Grasp so you can run more of them at once. Early priorities are simple: survive longer and keep your Magick flowing. Fancy cards can wait until your basics are covered.
Also bring a gathering tool on every run and take a familiar when you can — little bonuses from the Crossroads add up across dozens of nights, the same way small upgrades compound in our Hollow Knight charm guide.
5. Bosses: Learn One Phase at a Time
Hecate, your first real wall, teaches the whole game: watch for her patterns, respect the morph and dark phases, and never spend all your Magick right before she moves. Every later boss — from Polyphemus on the surface route to Scylla, Cerberus and Chronos himself below — follows the same rule.
- First reach: survive and watch. Note the two or three attacks that actually hit you.
- Second reach: answer those attacks specifically — a dash timing, a Cast placement, a sprint route.
- Chronos tip: his big clock-face attacks reward calm positioning. Stand safe first, damage second — greedy hits are how good runs end.
Precision platformers teach the same patience — see our Celeste dash guide if you want that mindset in its purest form. A precise Xbox Wireless Controller on PC also helps those dash timings feel consistent.
Your First-Win Checklist
- ☐ Master dash-then-sprint and stop double-tapping out of habit
- ☐ Use your Cast as a trap before hard rooms, not during panic
- ☐ Pick one Nocturnal Arm and learn its Omega move properly
- ☐ Build each run around one core slot and one clear idea
- ☐ Take Magick regeneration if your build spends Magick
- ☐ Unlock survival Arcana first; raise Grasp with Psyche
- ☐ Bring a gathering tool and collect resources every run
- ☐ Learn bosses one phase at a time — survive first, speed later
- ☐ Against Chronos: position first, damage second, always
Which boss ended more of your runs — Hecate, Scylla or Chronos himself?
