Astro Bot Guide: 9 Tips to Rescue Every Bot
Astro Bot hides bots in every corner, and the best rescues come from slowing down, listening for faint cries, and poking every suspicious flower, wire, and snowdrift.
1. Start Right: Listen, Look, Poke Everything
Astro Bot is a rescue mission dressed as a platformer. Each main level hides several stranded bots, three Puzzle Pieces, and piles of Coins — and the game quietly tells you where they are if you pay attention.
- Listen through your controller. A hidden bot's cry plays through the DualSense speaker and gets louder as you get closer. If you hear crying, stop running and hunt.
- Poke everything. Spin into bushes, pull exposed wires, punch glowing spots, and hover over soft ground. Secrets sit behind, under, and inside the scenery.
- Use your hover jets as a flashlight. Astro's hover leaves a light trail and can melt ice, burn leaves, and reveal hidden platforms and coins underfoot.
- Play it on the right hardware. The full speaker, haptics, and motion tricks need a DualSense Wireless Controller — it is half the game's charm.

2. Know Your Powers: The Gadget Table
Most levels hand Astro one signature power. Learning what each one really does — including its secret second use — is the fastest route to every bot and Puzzle Piece.
| Power | What It Does | Secret-Hunting Use |
|---|---|---|
| Barkster, the Bulldog Booster | A powerful forward dash that smashes cracked walls and floors | Dash through cracked glass and metal grates hiding bots |
| Twin-Frog Gloves | Spring-loaded punches that grab distant handles and enemies | Grab far-off tethers and pull-down points across gaps |
| Handy-D, the Monkey | Climbs handholds and swings from bars | Check every climbable wall to its very top — bots perch there |
| Mouse Suit | Shrinks Astro to slip through tiny gaps | Small holes and vents almost always lead to a collectible |
| Chicken Rocket | Blasts straight up to high platforms | Launch beside suspicious towers and chimneys, then glide wide |
| Penguin Propeller | Fast underwater swimming and spin attacks | Search lake and pool floors, not just the surface |
When a level gives you a power, assume at least one secret needs it used somewhere unexpected — backtrack a little before the goal.
3. Galaxy Order, Bosses, and the Rescue Rhythm
Astro Bot unfolds across five main galaxies — Gorilla Nebula, Tentacle System, Serpent Starway, Camo Cosmos, and Feather Cluster — each ending in a big boss fight, with the showdown against Nebulax waiting at the end of the journey.
- Mighty Chewy (Gorilla Nebula): punch back what he throws, then strike when he exposes his weak point — the pattern teaches every later boss.
- Wako Tako (Tentacle System): watch the arms, not the head; attack in the short calm between slams.
- Lady Venomara (Serpent Starway) and Mecha Leon (Camo Cosmos) both reward patience: dodge a full pattern, then commit to one clean damage window.
- Rescue as you go. Bots you save rebuild the Crash Site hub and unlock its teamwork moments, so a thorough first run makes the whole game smoother.
Boss patterns here are fair and readable — very different from the precision punishment in our Cuphead boss guide, but the same rule applies: learn the pattern first, attack second.
4. Collectibles: Puzzle Pieces, Coins, and the Lost Galaxy
Coins are not just pocket change. Spend them at the Crash Site's Gacha Lab (300 Coins a pull) to win costumes, ship colors, and little diorama props that bring your rescued crew to life.
- Puzzle Pieces (3 per level) unlock the Crash Site's extras — the Safari Park, the Dual Speeder garage, and the Changing Room — so they are worth a replay on their own.
- Secret exits hide in some levels and open the Lost Galaxy, a set of extra-tough hidden levels. If a level seems to end too early, look for a second goal.
- The symbol challenge levels (triangle, circle, cross, square) are short, spicy skill tests. Beat them in small sessions rather than one frustrated marathon.
- Missed one bot? On a replay you can hire the Bird Buddy at the level start — it chirps and points toward your missing collectibles, so no bot stays lost forever.
Completionists who enjoy a good collectible hunt will feel right at home in our Hollow Knight guide too — very different mood, same itch.
5. Smart Habits That Save Hours
- Finish the level, then replay it. Returning with full knowledge of the layout is far faster than combing every corner on a blind first run.
- Check behind the camera. Bots love hiding behind the start point, under the goal platform, and just off the edge of the obvious path.
- Break every jar, crate, and snowman. Coins fund the Gacha Lab, and gacha prizes include helpful costumes — plus a few bots only appear once the Crash Site grows.
- Use photo-worthy pauses. Freezing for a second to scan a busy scene with the camera saves more rescues than any reflex trick.
- Bring a second player mindset. Astro Bot is solo, but its bite-size levels are perfect pass-the-controller fun — fresh eyes spot hidden bots fast.
