HOW2 WINDOWS: Use Virtual Desktops Well
One desktop for work, one for personal, one for the project eating your week. Virtual desktops are Windows' most underused calm machine.
Why Separate Desktops Work
Window clutter is context clutter. A desktop per project keeps apps grouped, hides distractions, and makes switching feel instant instead of archaeological.
The Shortcuts That Matter
- Win + Tab — see all desktops and windows.
- Win + Ctrl + D — create a new desktop.
- Win + Ctrl + ← / → — switch desktops.
- Win + Ctrl + F4 — close the current desktop.

Name Them, Wallpaper Them
Right-click a desktop in Task View to rename it and give each a different background. Your brain learns places faster than lists — a blue work desktop and a warm personal one switch almost by feel.
A Setup That Sticks
Keep it to three desktops at most: Focus, Comms, Personal. More than that and you are building clutter with extra steps.
What would your second desktop be dedicated to?
