HOW2 WINDOWS: Repair Apps Without Reinstalling
An app that crashes on launch does not always need the nuclear option. Windows hides a repair shop inside Settings.
Repair First, Reset Second
For many Windows apps, Settings → Apps → Installed apps → Advanced options offers Repair (fixes the app, keeps its data) and Reset (reinstalls the app's state and clears its data). Always try Repair first.
The Five-Minute Sequence
- Close the app completely.
- Open its Advanced options and click Repair.
- Launch and test. Fixed? Stop here.
- Still broken? Back up anything inside the app, then use Reset.

When Repair Cannot Help
If several apps break at once, suspect Windows itself: run Windows Update, then check your drive and memory health. One broken app is an app problem; five broken apps are a system problem on your own PC.
A Cleaner Habit
Keep a short list of apps you actually use and remove the rest quarterly. Fewer apps, fewer mysteries.
Which app on your PC would you repair first?
