THE ZOM ZOM CHRONICLES

Post Title: Dropping into the Splash Zone (And the Terrifying Secret of CurdTech)

Date: Thursday Night, Way Too Late

Mood: Asthmatic, covered in fiberglass insulation, and radically enlightened.

Current Status: Trapped in the Medical Ward with a tied-up scientist.

Gravity is a harsh evaluator of stealth operations.

Dave managed to get the ventilation grate loose, but instead of a smooth, Mission: Impossible drop, his pants snagged on a rogue drywall screw. He hung upside down for a solid three seconds like a confused bat before dropping face-first into a metal disposal bin full of biohazard waste bags.

CRASH. RATTLE. POP.

"I’m okay," Dave’s muffled voice echoed from inside the bin. "The hazard bags broke my fall. Also, I found a glove."

I slid out next, landing on my feet but instantly twisting my ankle on a stray rolling stool. Brenda descended like a specialized paratrooper, her blazer completely unwrinkled, landing in a perfect three-point stance. Finally, Mister Whiskers dropped from the ceiling panel, landed squarely on Dave’s head, and used it as a launching pad to leap onto an examination table.

"Operational entry successful," Brenda whispered, adjusting her glasses. "Minimal noise discipline, but we are inside the perimeter."

The Lucid Patient

We turned to the corner of the room. The man in the blood-stained lab coat was staring at us. Up close, his skin was the color of skim milk, and his veins were a deep, unnatural violet. His jaw was twitching.

Zom... His teeth clicked together. Then he shook his head violently, snapping his eyes back into focus.

"Don't... don't let me chew," he panted, his fists clenching against the leather restraints. "If you hear the rhythm, hit me. Seriously. There’s a rubber reflex hammer on the tray."

"Are you infected?" Brenda asked, stepping forward and using her license-plate shiv to keep a safe distance.

"Yes and no," the doctor rattled, his breath coming in shallow gasps. "I am Dr. Alexander Vance, Chief Medical Officer for the 204th. I ate a single cracker with the cheese spread before we realized what it was. I injected myself with a massive dose of experimental neuro-inhibitors. It’s... stalling the neural rewrite. But my time is running out."

"You said the cheese was engineered," I said, leaning in. "What do you mean? It wasn't a mutation?"

Dr. Vance let out a grim, wet chuckle that turned into a coughing fit. "Mutations are sloppy. Nature doesn't package pathogens in vacuum-sealed aluminum foil with a pull-tab. The Z-pathogen was manufactured by a corporate shell company called CurdTech Industries."

Dave popped his head out of the biohazard bin, his bicycle helmet covered in medical tape. "CurdTech? The organic snack people? I eat their white cheddar puffs!"

"Then pray they used synthetic flavoring," Dr. Vance said, his eyes darting to the door. "It was a corporate espionage project. A weaponized neural-parasite designed to induce hyper-compliance and high-density herd behavior. It was supposed to be a crowd-control agent for civilian riots. But they over-engineered the aggression matrix. It leaked. The military drop at FOB Echo wasn't a supply run; it was a field test orchestrated by a mole in the logistics division."

"Miller," Brenda said, her voice dropping an octave. "Sergeant Miller knew."

"Miller didn't know at first," Vance whispered. "But when the garrison turned, he found the corporate manifestos. He locked me in here to keep the truth from the civilian refugees. If they find out the military brought the virus inside the walls on purpose, there will be a mutiny. He’s protecting the chain of command... at the cost of our species."

CLASSIFIED DOSSIER: THE CURDTECH ANOMALY

(Data dictated by Dr. Vance while he fought off the urge to bite his own tongue)

Before his laptop was smashed during the initial quarantine breach, Dr. Vance managed to analyze the molecular structure of the pathogen found in the Jalapeño Cheese Spread.

Metric Standard Virus (Movie Logic) The Zom Zom Pathogen (CurdTech)
Incubation Period 24 to 48 Hours 12 Seconds to 2 Hours (Depending on dairy fats).
Primary Vector Saliva / Bites Ingestion of Preserved Lipids (Cheese/Butter).
Brain Activity Total Necrosis (Dead Brain) Hyper-Active Brainstem. The host is technically awake, but trapped in an infinite feedback loop of hunger.
Vocalizations Low Guttural Groans Rhythmic Mastication (Zom. Zom. Zom.). The sound is a neurological glitch caused by the parasite mimicking a heartbeat.
Weakness Brain Destruction Extreme Core Temperature Drop. They hate the cold (hence why the IT Server Room and the river were safer).

THE ESCAPE & EXFILTRATION CHECKLIST

Dave drew up a quick plan on the back of a medical chart while Brenda monitored Dr. Vance's vitals. We can't leave him here to turn, and we can't go back up the vents carrying a grown man.

  • Neutralize the Thermite Trap: Dr. Vance says Miller rigged the external door handle with a military incendiary charge. We have to bypass the wiring from inside the wall panel.
  • Secure a Stabilizer: Find more neuro-inhibitors in the locked pharmaceutical cabinet to keep Dr. Vance lucid for the journey.
  • Weapon Upgrade: Access the tactical lockers inside the medical office. (Goodbye, pointy stick; hello, actual military hardware).
  • Evacuate via the Laundry Chute: The medical ward links directly to the industrial laundry room, bypassing Miller’s main security desk.

The Alarm

"I can disable the door trap," Dave said, crawling out of the bin and wiping dust from his glasses. "It’s just basic low-voltage circuitry. If I short the relay with this pocket knife..."

BZZZZZZZZT.

A massive, deafening siren began to wail throughout the subterranean complex. The emergency strip lights flickered from green to a pulsing, angry crimson.

A heavy, digitized voice boomed through the ceiling speakers:

“WARNING. INTERNAL BREACH DETECTED. VENTILATION SHAFTS COMPROMISED. SECURITY TEAM TO SECTOR FOUR. LOCKDOWN PROTOCOL ENFORCED.”

"Miller found the open vent in the laundry room," Joe’s frantic voice crackled through the small walkie-talkie in my pocket. "Guys! He’s counting cots! He knows you're gone! He’s heading toward Medical with the shotgun!"

Dr. Vance’s jaw began to click rapidly. Zom. Zom. Zom. His eyes started to roll back into his head. "Get... get the inhibitor," he choked out. "Cabinet... code is... 1-0-6-6..."

Outside the heavy medical door, we heard the unmistakable, heavy sound of military boots sprinting down the tile hallway, accompanied by the loud, metallic CHUCK-CHUCK of a twelve-gauge shotgun being racked.

"Break the cabinet glass!" Brenda ordered, raising her license-plate shiv. "We are officially executing a hostile corporate takeover."

Status Update: Dave is currently frying the door circuits with a pair of surgical scissors. The room is filling with electrical smoke. The alarm is screaming. Miller is right outside the door.

And Mister Whiskers just knocked over a jar of formaldehyde.

We have roughly five seconds to inject the doctor, disable a bomb, and find a weapon before the door gets blown off its hinges.
