HOW2 WINDOWS: Fix Bluetooth in 5 Minutes
Headphones that will not connect and mice that vanish are rarely broken hardware. Five minutes of the right Windows fixes solves most Bluetooth drama.
Fix 1: The 20-Second Reset
Toggle Bluetooth off in Settings > Bluetooth & devices, wait ten seconds, toggle it back on. Then restart the device itself. This clears most stuck pairings instantly — try it before anything deeper.
Fix 2: Remove and Re-Pair Cleanly
- In Settings, select the problem device and choose Remove device
- Put the device in pairing mode (check its manual for the button hold)
- Add it again as a fresh Bluetooth device
- For headphones, remove old entries for the same device — duplicates confuse Windows
Fix 3: Restart the Bluetooth Service
Press Win+R, type services.msc, find Bluetooth Support Service, and choose Restart. Set its startup type to Automatic so the fix survives a reboot.
Fix 4: Drivers and Power
Update the Bluetooth driver from your PC maker's site, not a driver-booster app. Then in Device Manager, open the Bluetooth adapter's Power Management tab and untick 'Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power' — the classic cause of random disconnects.
Summary
- Toggle, remove, re-pair — in that order
- Restart the Bluetooth Support Service
- Untick power-saving on the adapter
