HOW2 SHOPIFY: Add FAQ Accordions to Product Pages — No App
Your product pages are answering the wrong questions — or burying the answers in a wall of text nobody scrolls through. FAQ accordions put shipping, returns, and sizing answers one tap away. Here is how to add them with Shopify’s built-in blocks — zero apps, zero code.
Why Accordions Win on Product Pages
Most hesitation happens right on the product page — shipping cost, return window, size fit. A tidy set of expandable rows answers all of it without pushing the Buy button below the fold, which is gold on mobile.
- Higher conversion: answered objections turn into checkouts.
- Mobile-friendly: collapsed rows keep pages short and fast.
- SEO bonus: FAQ content can qualify for rich results in Google. Pair it with a clean technical setup — like redirecting deleted product URLs before they become ghost towns — and your store ranks cleaner overall.
- Fewer support emails: customers find answers themselves. Fewer pre-sale questions also means fewer abandoned carts, just like smoothing checkout surprises with Shop Pay Installments does.
Add a Collapsible Row in 6 Steps
Every Shopify 2.0 theme (Dawn and friends) ships with a Collapsible row block. No app, no Liquid edits.
- In your Shopify admin, go to Online Store > Themes.
- Click Customize on your live theme.
- Use the template dropdown at the top and switch to Products > Default product.
- Click Add block inside the Product information section, then choose Collapsible row.
- Type your heading (for example “Shipping & Returns”) and paste the row content. Pick an icon for polish.
- Drag the row where you want it, then hit Save.
That’s the whole trick — it’s the same no-app spirit as our Recently Viewed carousel: built-in blocks beat paid apps when you only need one job done.
One FAQ for Every Product — Without Copy-Pasting
Here’s the catch: a block added to the Default product template shows the same text on every product. For store-wide policies (shipping, returns) that’s perfect. For product-specific answers (size runs, care instructions), connect the row to a metafield instead.
- Go to Settings > Custom data > Products and click Add definition.
- Name it (“Size notes”), set the type to Multi-line text, and save.
- Open each product and fill in its value.
- Back in the theme editor, click the Collapsible row’s Row content, hit the dynamic-source icon, and connect your metafield. Empty metafields simply don’t render — no blank rows.
| Method | Cost | Effort | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Theme block (static) | Free | 5 minutes | Shipping & returns for the whole store |
| Theme block + metafield | Free | 30 minutes | Per-product sizing, care, specs |
| FAQ app | $5–$30/mo | Install & configure | Only if you need schema markup automation |
Which Questions Belong in Your FAQ
Start with the questions your customers already ask you — then raid your support inbox for the rest. The all-star lineup:
- Shipping: How fast? How much? Do you ship to my country?
- Returns: What’s the window? Who pays return shipping?
- Fit & sizing: True to size? Include a size chart link.
- Materials & care: What is it made of? How do I wash it?
- Warranty & authenticity: Especially for electronics and branded goods.
Cap it at 5–7 rows. More than that and the accordion becomes the wall of text you were trying to escape.
Pro Tips & Gotchas
- Duplicate your theme first. Online Store > Themes > three dots > Duplicate. It takes ten seconds and saves hours — treat it like a backup before any theme change.
- Skip the FAQ app unless you need it. Every app you install can leave behind ghost code that slows your store long after you uninstall. Built-in blocks leave no trace.
- Keep rows closed by default. Collapsed rows keep the page scannable; an accordion that starts fully open is just a paragraph with extra steps.
- Preview on mobile. Use the theme editor’s mobile view — your shoppers do.
The Wrap-Up
- Collapsible row blocks add FAQ accordions to product pages with no app and no code.
- Use one template-wide row for store policies, metafields for per-product answers.
- Keep 5–7 questions focused on real buying objections.
- Duplicate your theme before editing anything — always.
Which question do your customers ask you over and over again? That is the first row to build.
