1. Using the Hardware Buttons

On iPhones with Face ID (like the iPhone 16 Pro Max), press and hold the Side Button and one of the Volume Buttons simultaneously until the Emergency SOS slider appears. Drag the slider to call emergency services.

2. Automatic Call (Countdown)

If you continue holding the Side Button and Volume Buttons, your iPhone will automatically call emergency services after a countdown of 3 seconds. This is critical if you cannot access or view the screen.

3. Using Settings

You can enable and manage Emergency SOS through Settings > Emergency SOS. Here, you can customize options like auto-call.

1. Canceling the Countdown

If you accidentally trigger the countdown screen, tap Stop Calling before the timer finishes to cancel the emergency call immediately.

2. If the Call Connects

If you've already called emergency services by mistake, do not hang up. Wait until they answer and calmly explain that it was a mistake and you do not need assistance.

3. Turn Off Auto Call

To prevent accidental activations in the future, go to Settings > Emergency SOS, and toggle off the option for "Call with Hold and Release" or auto-call.

Location Sharing & Contacts

  • When activated, your iPhone may send a text message with your current location to your designated emergency contacts (if set up in your Medical ID).
  • It updates your contacts if your location changes during the emergency.
  • It can trigger a loud alert sound during the countdown to notify others nearby that you need assistance.
