We’ve all been there. You want to show your friend a hilarious picture of a dog in a raincoat. You unlock your iPhone, pull up the photo, and hand over the device. Suddenly, their thumb twitches. They swipe. They swipe again. Now they are three years deep into your camera roll, perilously close to that album of weird rash photos you took for your dermatologist. Handing over an unlocked phone is the modern equivalent of tossing the One Ring to a toddler and hoping they don't put it on.

Most tech blogs will tell you to just use "Guided Access" and call it a day. But that’s amateur hour. We are going to build a completely fake, sandboxed "Decoy UI" using iOS Focus Modes, so when you hand your phone over, they think they are seeing your whole digital life, but they're actually trapped in a beautifully crafted simulation. Welcome to the Matrix.

Step 1: Building the "John Wick" Safe House

To make this work, we need an entirely separate Home Screen that only exists when we want it to. We are constructing a digital Potemkin village [1].

• Long-press any empty space on your current home screen until the apps start doing their little anxiety jiggle.
• Swipe right until you hit a completely blank page.
• Add apps strategically: Put Safari, a calculator, the Weather app, and maybe a generic game on this page. Absolutely NO Messages, NO Photos, and NO Mail.
• Hide the page: Tap the little dots at the bottom of the screen to view all your pages, and uncheck the circle under this new "decoy" page to hide it from your normal view.

Step 2: The Digital Bouncer (Focus Mode)

Now we tie our decoy page to a custom Focus Mode. Think of this Focus Mode as a velvet rope, and you are the intimidating bouncer who just told your nosy friend their name isn't on the list.

• Go to Settings > Focus and tap the + in the top right.
• Create a Custom Focus. Name it "Guest" (or "Nosy Parker Protocol" if you're feeling spicy), and give it a non-threatening icon, like a smiley face.
• Under Customize Screens, tap the middle option (Home Screen). Select ONLY the hidden decoy page you built in Step 1.
• Crucial Step: Under Options, turn OFF Notification Badges. You don't want a rogue text from your mom popping up while your friend is holding the device [2].

Step 3: Quick-Draw Execution

The next time someone says, "Oh, let me see that!" you don't panic. You simply swipe down from the top right of your screen to open Control Center, tap the Focus icon, and select your "Guest" mode.

Instantly, your phone's UI shifts. Your financial apps, your spicy group chats, and your questionable browser history vanish into the ether. You hand them the phone. They can swipe all they want, but all they will find is the Weather app and Sudoku [3].
