MacBook Pro M6 Review: 12 Cores, Wi-Fi 7, 24 Hours

Apple changed nothing you can see and almost everything you can feel. The 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 keeps the familiar shell and swaps in a faster brain, faster wireless, and battery claims that border on showing off.

The Pitch, Minus the Hype

Apple announced the 14-inch MacBook Pro with M6 on October 27, 2026. Preorders opened the next day, and it lands on shelves Friday, November 6. There is no new design to admire — same aluminum body at 3.4 pounds, same gorgeous screen, same ports. This year, all the news is under the keyboard.

That is not a complaint. When the outside is already this good, the smart move is upgrading the parts that age: the chip, the wireless, and the memory speed. Apple did exactly that, and skipped the usual hour-long victory lap about it.

M6: Two More Cores of Everything

The M6 is built on a 2-nanometer process and grows from 10 cores to 12 — two super cores, four performance cores, and six efficiency cores. The GPU grows to 12 cores too. Apple claims up to 30% faster graphics and up to 25% faster AI workloads than the M5 generation, and the Neural Engine doubles up into a dual 16-core setup with 32 cores total.

  • 12-core CPU and 12-core GPU — up from 10 and 10
  • Dual 16-core Neural Engine — on-device AI gets a second brain
  • Memory bandwidth up to 170GB/s on the 24GB and 32GB models, up from 153GB/s
  • 16GB of memory standard, storage from 1TB up to 4TB

In plain English: photo edits finish sooner, code compiles quicker, and the AI tools creeping into every app stop feeling like they're thinking about it. Nobody's M5 suddenly became slow — but the gap is real, and it is the honest kind: more cores, more bandwidth, smaller transistors.

Read the table the way the Wizard does: the left column wins on speed and wireless, ties on screen and battery. If your work touches big files, local AI, or a modern Wi-Fi 7 router, the left column is the one that feels new in a year, not just on day one.

Wi-Fi 7 and a Battery That Outlasts Your Workday

The wireless jump is the sleeper upgrade. Wi-Fi 7 and Bluetooth 6 arrive via Apple's N1 chip, replacing Wi-Fi 6E and Bluetooth 5.3 — faster transfers, steadier connections, and a laptop that won't be the ancient one on your network in three years. It can also drive two external 4K displays at up to 165Hz, up from 144Hz, if your desk is that kind of cockpit.

Battery stays at the headline number: up to 24 hours of video streaming, or up to 16 hours of wireless web, per Apple's testing. Fast charging gets you to roughly 50% in 30 minutes with a high-wattage adapter like the Apple 96W USB-C Power Adapter. Twenty-four hours is the longest battery claim any Mac has ever carried — treat it as a ceiling, not a promise, but even half of it is a full workday plus the evening.

Who Should Buy, Who Should Wait

Coming from an Intel-era or M1 MacBook? Buy it, and don't look back. The jump in speed, screen quality, and battery life is the kind you feel in the first ten minutes — this is the upgrade you've been saving for.

Own last year's MacBook Pro with M5? Wait. Your machine is still excellent, and two extra cores won't change your life. The exception: if you run local AI workloads daily, the doubled Neural Engine and extra bandwidth are a genuine work upgrade, not a toy.

Love your MacBook Air M4 but hit its ceiling? This is your step-up: brighter ProMotion screen, a fan for sustained heavy work, and the full port lineup — HDMI and an SD card slot, no dongle pouch required.

Students and creators buying for the long haul? Yes — Wi-Fi 7, the 12-core chip, and 1TB of starting storage make this the configuration most likely to still feel fast at graduation and beyond.

The M6 MacBook Pro is Apple at its most grown-up: no gimmicks, no redesign for redesign's sake — just more cores, faster wireless, and the best battery claim in Mac history, in space black or silver. If you're upgrading from anything older than last year, this is the one.

Would two more cores and Wi-Fi 7 tempt you to upgrade — or is your current laptop safe for another year?
