Best eReaders 2026: 4 Picks for Every Reader
Weeks of battery, a page with no glare, and a library in your coat pocket. Four proven eReaders, compared by the three questions that actually decide it.
How to choose without overthinking it
Every eReader here does the essential job beautifully: a glare-free page, weeks of battery, and a library in your pocket. The right pick is decided by three honest questions — do you read in colour, do you read in the bath, and do you prefer tapping a screen or pressing a real button?
Answer those and the table below chooses for you. If you split your reading between a reader and a phone, our iPhone Lock Screen guide can tidy the phone side of that habit while your eReader stays blissfully single-purpose.

The annotator's favourite: real buttons, a grip made for long sessions, colour for covers and comics, and library borrowing built into its ecosystem.
Side by side: the decision table
| Pick | Screen | Colour? | Best for |
|---|---|---|---|
| Kindle (2022) | 6-inch, 300 ppi | No | Lightest travel reader |
| Kobo Clara Colour | 6-inch Kaleido 3 | Yes | Colour in a pocket size |
| Kindle Paperwhite (2024) | 7-inch Carta 1300 | No (warm light) | Daily readers, longest battery |
| Kobo Libra Colour | 7-inch Kaleido 3 | Yes | Buttons, notes, and library loans |
Whichever you choose, set it up once and then forget the setup: download your current book, turn on airplane mode, and let the battery story prove itself. That single-purpose calm is the whole point — the same calm we chase in our Chromebook offline tips when a device does one job well.
Summary: pick by colour, water, and buttons
- Colour matters for comics, cookbooks, and kids' books — less for novels.
- Waterproofing is freedom: bath, beach, and spilled coffee stop being risks.
- Buttons and grips matter more over a long novel than any spec sheet admits.
- All four carry weeks of battery — charging stops being a habit entirely.
Do you read in colour, or is a perfect black-and-white page still your favourite?
