Battery Replacement Guide: Asus ZenBook Pro Duo UX581GV
Tools You Will Need:
- T5 Torx Screwdriver: To remove the screws on the bottom casing.
- Phillips #0 or #00 Screwdriver: To remove the internal screws securing the battery.
- Plastic Pry Tool (Spudger): To safely unclip the bottom cover without scratching the chassis.
- Anti-static Wrist Strap (Optional): Recommended to prevent electrostatic discharge from damaging internal components.
1. Preparation and Safety +
Before you begin, ensure your laptop is completely turned off (not just asleep). Unplug the power adapter and any other connected peripherals. Clear a clean, well-lit, and flat workspace.
2. Remove the Bottom Cover +
- Flip your laptop over so the bottom is facing up.
- Locate the 10 Torx screws around the perimeter and center of the bottom panel.
- Use your T5 Torx screwdriver to carefully remove all of them. Keep them in a safe tray, noting if any are different lengths so they go back in the correct holes later.
- Insert your plastic pry tool into the seam between the bottom cover and the laptop chassis. Gently slide it along the edges to release the plastic clips holding the cover in place.
- Once all clips are released, lift the bottom cover off and set it aside.
3. Disconnect the Battery +
This is the most critical step to prevent accidentally short-circuiting your motherboard while working.
- Locate the main battery—it's the large rectangular block taking up the lower portion of the laptop.
- Find the battery connector cable plugging into the motherboard.
- Carefully slide the connector horizontally out of its socket. Do not pull straight up, as this can break the pins. If there is a metal retaining bracket or tape over the connector, gently remove it first.
4. Remove the Old Battery +
- Switch to your Phillips screwdriver.
- Locate and remove the screws holding the battery in place (usually around the perimeter of the battery).
- Once the screws are out, gently lift the battery out of the chassis.
5. Install the New Battery +
- Place your new replacement battery into the exact same position, ensuring the screw holes align perfectly.
- Reinsert and tighten the Phillips screws to secure the battery. Do not overtighten them, as you risk cracking the plastic housing.
- Carefully slide the new battery's connector into the motherboard socket, ensuring it is seated snugly and completely. Replace any tape or retaining brackets you removed earlier.
6. Reassembly +
- Place the bottom cover back onto the laptop.
- Press down gently around all the edges until you hear the clips snap securely back into place.
- Reinsert the 10 T5 Torx screws and tighten them.
Post-Installation Calibration +
Once your laptop is put back together, plug it into the wall charger. It's highly recommended to calibrate your new battery to ensure Windows reads its capacity accurately:
- Charge the laptop to 100% without unplugging it.
- Once at 100%, keep it plugged in for another 1–2 hours.
- Unplug the laptop and use it normally until the battery completely drains and the laptop shuts down.
- Plug it back in and charge it uninterrupted back to 100%.
