How to Show Your Mac's Drives on the Desktop

Show Hard Drives on Your Mac Desktop

Want quick access to your drives right from your desktop? Follow these simple steps to display your hard drives and external drives on your Mac.

Open Finder

Click on the Finder icon in your Dock (the smiling face icon).

Access Preferences

In the top menu bar, click on Finder, then select Preferences from the drop-down menu.

Show Hard Drives

Click the General tab. Under "Show these items on the desktop," check the boxes next to Hard disks and External disks.

Close Preferences

Once you've made your selections, you can safely close the Preferences window.

Check Your Desktop

Go back to your desktop. You should now see your hard drives and any connected external drives displayed!
