Do you visit websites like YouTube, Netflix, or your email ten times a day? Instead of opening Safari and typing in the address every time, you can add them directly to your screen—just like an app on your iPhone.

Here are the two easiest ways to do it.

Method 1: The "App" Way (Best for Newer Macs)

Use this if you want the website to look and act like a real app, with its own icon and window.

Note: This works on Macs updated to macOS Sonoma (late 2023) or later.

  1. Open Safari and go to the website you want (e.g., Netflix.com).

  2. Look at the menu bar at the very top of your screen and click File.

  3. Select Add to Dock… from the list.

  4. You can change the name if you want, then click the blue Add button.

The Result: The website icon sits in your Dock permanently. When you click it, it opens in its own clean window, separate from your other browser tabs!

Method 2: The "Shortcut" Way (Works on Any Mac)

Use this if you just want a quick link on your desktop.

  1. Open Safari and go to the website.

  2. Look at the address bar at the top (where it says www.example.com).

  3. Click and hold the small icon or globe to the left of the website address.

  4. Drag that icon right onto your desktop wallpaper and let go.

The Result: You now have a shortcut file on your desktop. Double-click it anytime to launch that page in Safari.

Which one should I choose?

  • Go with Method 1 if you want a premium, "app-like" experience without the clutter of browser bars.

  • Go with Method 2 if you are on an older Mac or just want a temporary shortcut.
