Pro Trainer Guide Knowledge Base
Pokémon Go transcends its initial perception as a simple mobile game, evolving into a complex ecosystem demanding strategic depth, meticulous resource management, and a keen understanding of its intricate mechanics.
This guide is designed to equip trainers with the knowledge and actionable strategies necessary to elevate their gameplay. It delves into the foundational skills required for consistent performance, explores the nuances of resource acquisition and allocation, and provides advanced insights into team building and combat dynamics. Moving from reactive play to proactive mastery, you will ultimately dominate every aspect of the Pokémon Go experience.
Precision Throwing Techniques
At the heart of every catch attempt lies the target ring. Its color indicates the capture difficulty: green for low, orange for intermediate, and red for extreme difficulty.
| Throw Type | XP Bonus | Catch Chance Multiplier |
|---|---|---|
| Nice | 20 XP | 1 to 1.3x catch chance |
| Great | 100 XP | 1.3 to 1.7x catch chance |
| Excellent | 1000 XP | 1.7 to 2x catch chance |
| Curveball | 10 XP | Decreases break-free chance |
Berry Strategy
- Razz Berries: Prevents Pokémon from breaking free. Golden Razz Berries are reserved for high-value targets (Legendary/Shiny).
- Nanab Berries: Calms erratic movements. Best used to feed friendly Gyms for Stardust if you are experienced at catching.
- Pinap Berries: Doubles Candy received upon successful catch. Silver Pinap offers dual benefits of Razz + Pinap.
Daily Rituals & Streaks
Consistent daily interaction is rewarded. Maintaining a 7-day PokéStop streak yields 2500 XP and guaranteed evolution items (Sun Stone, King's Rock, Metal Coat, etc.). Catching daily provides compounding stardust and XP.
Stardust Farming
Stardust is the most valuable resource, essential for powering up and unlocking second Charged Attacks.
| Stardust Source | Yield |
|---|---|
| Basic Pokémon Catch | 100 Stardust (+25% Weather Boosted) |
| First / Second Evolution Catch | 300 / 500 Stardust |
| Hatching Eggs (2km - 12km) | 400 to 6,400 Stardust |
| Regular / 5-Star / Max Raids | 1,000 / 15,000 / 25,000 Stardust |
| Feeding Berry to Gym | 20 Stardust per berry |
| Adventure Sync (100km) | 10,000 Stardust |
Candy & Inventory Management
- Rare Candy XL: Limited resource essential beyond level 40. Save strictly for top-tier Legendaries and meta-relevant PVP Pokémon.
- Item Prioritization: Delete Basic Potions and Poké Balls first when inventory is full. Never delete Premium Raid Passes, Star Pieces, or Rare Candy. Convert excess basic berries to Stardust via Gym feeding.
Individual Values (IVs)
- PvE (Raids & Gyms): Prioritize max Attack IVs (15). Higher attack hits damage "breakpoints" faster against bosses.
- PvP (CP-Capped Leagues): Counter-intuitively, low Attack and high Defense/HP are preferred. Attack heavily influences CP. Low attack allows the Pokémon to reach a higher overall level and gain more bulk within the CP limit.
Moveset Mastery
Balance DPS (Damage Per Second) for raw output against EPS (Energy Per Second) to charge attacks rapidly. Use High EPS moves (Mud Shot, Psycho Cut) to trigger shield-baiting in PvP.
Shadow vs. Purified
Shadow Pokémon deal 20% more damage but take 20% more damage. They are glass cannons ideal for PvE. Purified Pokémon cost less Stardust to power up and get a +2 boost to all IVs.
Damage Multipliers
- STAB: Same Type Attack Bonus yields +20% damage.
- Super Effective: 1.6x damage (Doubly effective is 2.56x).
- Not Very Effective / Immunity: 0.625x / 0.39x damage respectively.
PvP Team Archetypes
| Archetype Name | Description |
|---|---|
| Fire/Water/Grass Core | Classic balanced synergy covering major weaknesses. |
| ABB (Attack-Backup-Backup) | Lead draws out counters, safe-swap sacrifices, final sweeper cleans up. |
| Hyper Offense | Fast, frail, high DPS attackers. |
| Stall/Semi-Stall | Absorbing damage to win via timeout or chip damage. |
Pro PvP Trick: Count fast attacks. Knowing how many taps an opponent needs to reach their Charged Attack allows perfect shield usage.
