Catching Yveltal in Pokémon Legends: Z-A is a post-game challenge that requires completing the main story first. It doesn't appear until you've reached Main Mission 41: "The One That Takes."

1. Unlock the Mission

After the credits roll, head to Hotel Z to meet with your team. You will be informed by a character named L that Xerneas and Yveltal have been spotted approaching Lumiose City.

2. Complete the Training Simulations

Before you can face Yveltal, you must prove your strength to Vinnie at Quasartico Inc. He will require you to defeat three "Rogue Mega Evolutions" in a battle simulator:

  • Mega Victreebel

  • Mega Hawlucha

  • Mega Tyranitar

3. Locate Yveltal

Once the simulations are complete, Vinnie will track Yveltal's energy to the Rouge District.

  • Location: The roof of the Galerie de la Lune (the domed shopping center).

  • How to get there: Look for scaffolding on the side of the building to reach the roof. To get onto the central glass dome where Yveltal is perched, you will need to jump and use the Roto-Glide (press A in mid-air).

4. The Battle Strategy

Yveltal is Level 75 and a Dark/Flying type. It is a forced catch, meaning you cannot finish the mission until it is in a Poké Ball.

Pro Tips for the Fight:

  • Dodge Oblivion Wing: Since this move heals Yveltal, it can make the battle drag on indefinitely. Watch for the animation and dodge to the side to prevent it from recovering HP.

  • Status Effects: Use Sleep or Paralysis to halt its attacks and significantly boost your catch rate.

  • Best Balls: If you are battling at night, Dusk Balls are your best bet. If the fight goes on for many turns, switch to Timer Balls.

After the Catch

Once Yveltal is caught, Al will give you the Zygarde Cube, which allows you to begin collecting Zygarde Cells and changing Zygarde’s forms.
