Palworld: Survive, Build, and Exploit (Ethically!)

Welcome to Palpagos Island! This guide will take you from a shivering castaway with a wooden club to a master Pal Tamer overseeing an automated, cake-fueled empire. Let's get to work.

Welcome to Palpagos! Try Not to Get Eaten.

Palworld is a delightful Frankenstein's monster of game genres: survival-crafting, open-world adventure, and monster-taming. Your first few days are all about kickstarting a crucial feedback loop: gathering resources to craft tools, catching Pals to automate gathering, and leveling up.

Fiddling With Knobs (World Settings)

You can dramatically alter your experience in the settings:

  • Gatherable Items & Dropped Items Multiplier: Crank these up (2x-3x) to reduce early-game grinding.
  • EXP Rate Slider: Boost this if you want to fly through the technology tree, though default is best for a pure survival experience.

Pal Capture Made Easy(ish)

The golden rule: significantly weaken the target Pal before throwing a Sphere (aim for 25% HP or lower). You get a Back Bonus for hitting a Pal from behind, and Status Effects (Stunned, Frozen) make them easier to snag.

Sphere Type Tech Lvl Capture Power Materials Needed
Pal Sphere 2 Basic 1 Paldium, 3 Wood, 3 Stone
Mega Sphere 14 Better 1 Paldium, 1 Ingot, 5 Wood, 5 Stone
Giga Sphere 20 Good 2 Paldium, 2 Ingot, 7 Wood, 7 Stone
Hyper/Tera Sphere 27 Very Good 3 Paldium, 3 Ingot, 10 Wood, 2 Cement
Ultra Sphere 35 Excellent 5 Paldium, 5 Refined Ingot, 2 Carbon Fiber, 3 Cement
Legendary Sphere 44 Legendary 10 Paldium, 5 Pal Metal, 3 Carbon Fiber, 5 Cement

Pal-emonia! Mastering Creature Companionship

Every Pal belongs to one or two elemental types. Understanding these matchups is fundamental for effective combat strategy, especially during challenging boss fights.

Element Type Strong Against Weak Against
Dark Neutral Dragon
Dragon Dark Ice
Electric Water Ground
Fire Ice AND Grass Water
Grass Ground Fire
Ground Electric Grass
Ice Dragon Fire
Neutral N/A (None) Dark
Water Fire Electric

Early-Game All-Star Pals

Pal Name Element Key Suitability Early Game Utility
Lamball Neutral Handiwork, Farming First line of defense (Fluffy Shield) and source of Wool.
Cattiva Neutral Mining, Gathering Indispensable pack mule; increases your carrying capacity.
Chikipi Neutral Farming Provides Eggs for food and Cake (needed for breeding).
Lifmunk Grass Lumbering, Planting Tiny Rambo with a head-mounted SMG. Great for logging.
Foxparks Fire Kindling Portable flamethrower and your first fire-starter for smelting.

Home Sweet (Automated) Sweatshop

The placement of your base is a critical strategic decision. You want flat, open space with abundant access to Ore and Coal nodes. As your Palbox levels up, you can establish up to three bases.

Prime Real Estate (Base Locations)

Location / Coordinates Key Resources Stage & Strategy
Plateau of Beginnings (264, -548) Wood, Stone, Paldium Early Game: Defendable, low-level Pals.
Sealed Realm of Guardian (192, -38) Abundant Ore & Coal Mid Game: Excellent for mass Ingot production.
Sakurajima Oil Fields (-646, 270) Abundant Crude Oil Late Game: Essential for fuel and plastics.
Astral Mountains (-207, 250) Pure Quartz Late Game: Farming Quartz for Circuit Boards.

Base Defense

Raids will happen. In the early game, craft an Alarm Bell to switch your Pals to combat mode. Later, funnel enemies into choke points using Stone Defensive Walls (wooden walls burn easily), Bear Traps, and Mounted Machine Guns.

Pew Pew! Pow Pow! Combat & Tower Bosses

Dodging is your single most important defensive maneuver. Managing your staminaβ€”knowing when to attack, dodge, and disengageβ€”is key. Progressively upgrading your weapons (from bows to assault rifles) and armor (from cloth to Pal Metal) acts as the primary gatekeeper for high-level zones.

Tower Boss Takedowns

These 10-minute timed encounters require exploiting elemental weaknesses and utilizing the arena's pillars for cover.

Boss Name Pal Type Weak Against Key Strategy
Zoe & Grizzbolt Electric Ground Use pillars to block the laser; dodge the 3-slam combo.
Lily & Lyleen Grass Fire Keep distance; shoot water bubbles; avoid seed mines.
Axel & Orserk Dragon/Electric Ice, Ground Pillars shield from AoE lightning; target Axel (rider).
Marcus & Faleris Fire Water Faleris is airborne, requiring strong ranged weapons.
Victor & Shadowbeak Dark Dragon Toughest boss (200k HP). Constant dodging required.

Tech Support & Pal Super-Soldiers

Technology Points (earned by leveling) unlock standard recipes. Ancient Technology Points (earned by defeating Alpha/Tower Bosses) unlock game-changing structures.

  • Egg Incubator (Lvl 7, 1 ATP): The gateway to breeding.
  • Feed Bag (Lvl 10, 1 ATP): Automates feeding for your active party.
  • Grappling Gun (Lvl 12, 1 ATP): Allows movement even when over-encumbered.
  • Pal Essence Condenser (Lvl 14, 2 ATP): Sacrifice duplicate Pals to upgrade the base stats, partner skill, and work suitabilities of a target Pal.

Breeding for Brilliance

Breeding requires a Breeding Farm, a Male and Female Pal, and lots of Cake. Offspring inherit Passive Skills (like Artisan for +50% work speed or Musclehead for +30% Attack).

Offspring Pal Parent A Parent B Notes
Anubis Bushi Penking Incredible worker (Handiwork Lvl 4).
Relaxaurus Lux Relaxaurus Sparkit Electric variant of Relaxaurus.
Shadowbeak Kitsun Astegon Top-tier Dark flyer.
Frostallion Noct Frostallion Helzephyr Powerful Dark/Ice legendary.

*Note: Alpha status and Lucky (shiny) status cannot be passed down through breeding.

Secrets, Exploits, and A Changing World

Palworld is infamous for its "charmingly broken" emergent gameplay. While developers patch things rapidly, here are a few legendary tricks (use with glee until patched!):

  • The Black Marketeer Roast: Build a Hanging Trap over a Black Marketeer's spawn, place a campfire underneath, and cook him for his Gold Coins/Keys without getting a Wanted level.
  • Double Oil Extractors: A single Crude Oil node can support *two* extractors if placed perfectly on opposite edges.
  • Plantation Stacking: Build a bench, place a farm on it, destroy the bench. The farm floats, allowing you to stack multiple farms in one footprint.
  • Enhanced Grapple-Gliding: Slide down a hill, jump, and deploy your glider. Or, grapple to a point and deploy your glider just as the grapple connects for extreme forward momentum.

Patch Notes & The Lawsuit

Following litigation from Nintendo/The Pokemon Company, Pocketpair made forced gameplay adjustments in 2024/2025:

  • Pal Summoning: You no longer throw a sphere to summon a Pal (too similar to existing IPs). They now spawn statically next to you.
  • Gliding Mechanic: You can no longer hold a Pal to glide. You must equip a separate glider item, with Pals providing passive gliding buffs instead.

Despite this, the game continues to evolve beautifully with additions like Crossplay, the Global Palbox, new biomes (Sakurajima, Lunaris), and the NCART Metro System.

Action successful!
