HOW2 WINDOWS: Fix Bluetooth Dropouts in 10 Min
Your headset is probably fine — Windows power saving is the usual dropout villain. Ten minutes of targeted fixes beats buying new earbuds.
Why Bluetooth Drops Happen
Bluetooth dropouts usually come from power saving, outdated drivers, or interference — not a dying headset. Windows aggressively sleeps radios to save battery, especially on laptops.
Start with the fix that matches the pattern: drops after idle point to power settings; drops in one room point to interference.
Fix One: Stop the Radio Sleeping
In Device Manager, open your Bluetooth adapter's properties and uncheck the option that lets the computer turn it off to save power. Restart and test.
Also disable USB selective suspend for dongle users — a sleeping USB port looks exactly like a broken headset.
Fix Two: Drivers and Re-Pairing
Update the Bluetooth driver from your PC maker's site, not just Windows Update. Then remove the device completely and pair it fresh so stale profiles are rebuilt.
Keep the headset's firmware updated through its companion app — many dropout bugs were fixed on the accessory side.
Fix Three: Interference Hunt
Move USB 3 hubs and drives away from Bluetooth dongles — they are notorious 2.4 GHz noise sources. A short USB extension cable for the dongle works wonders.
If drops happen only near the microwave or a crowded router channel, you have found physics, not a fault.
Bottom line: Small, deliberate steps beat panic fixes every time. Start with the first section today, verify the result, then move on.
