Make Your Ringtone Louder So You Never Miss a Call
aop3d techShare
Have you ever found a missed call from family — and you never even heard the phone ring? You are not alone, and it is not your fault. Phones have a separate volume just for ringing, and it is very easy to turn it down by accident.
The good news? Making your ringtone louder takes about one minute. Follow the steps for your phone below, go slowly, and take your time. There is no rush.
First, a quick word to know
Ringtone is simply the sound your phone makes when someone calls you. A slider is a line on the screen with a small circle on it — you slide the circle to the right to make something louder.
If you have an iPhone
- Tap Settings. It looks like a grey gear.
- Scroll down a little and tap Sounds & Haptics. Haptics just means the little buzz or vibration your phone makes.
- Look for the slider under Ringtone and Alerts.
- Slide the circle all the way to the right. Your phone will play a sample ring so you can hear how loud it is now.
- Just below the slider, find Change with Buttons. Turn this OFF. This stops the buttons on the side of your phone from accidentally turning your ringtone down again.
- Ask a family member to call you and test it. Loud and clear? You did it!
🎉 You did it! Your ringtone is now set, and it will stay that way.
If you have an Android phone
Android phones are made by companies like Samsung and Google, so the words may look slightly different. The steps are almost the same.
- Tap Settings. It looks like a gear.
- Tap Sound & vibration. On a Samsung phone, it may say Sounds and vibration.
- Tap Volume if you see it.
- Find the slider labeled Ringtone or Ring volume. Slide it all the way to the right.
- Go back one screen and turn on Vibrate while ringing if you see it. Now your phone will buzz in your pocket or purse as well as ring — two chances to notice the call.
- Ask a family member to call you and test it. You did it!
Still too quiet? Try these 3 easy checks
- Check silent mode. On iPhone, look at the small switch on the left side. If you see orange, it is on silent — push it so the orange hides. Also swipe down from the top of the screen and make sure Focus or Do Not Disturb is off. On Android, check that the sound mode is set to Sound, not Mute or Vibrate only.
- Pick a louder ringtone. Some ringtones are soft by nature. On iPhone, go to Settings > Sounds & Haptics > Ringtone and tap a few to hear them. On Android, go to Sound & vibration > Ringtone. A bright, cheerful tone is often easier to hear.
- Take the phone out of a bag or drawer. A phone ringing inside a closed bag or under cushions will always sound muffled. Try keeping it on a table in the room where you spend the most time.
One more iPhone tip: If your ring gets quieter when you pick up the phone and look at it, that is a feature working as designed. To turn it off, go to Settings > Face ID & Passcode and turn off Attention Aware Features.
