Setting up your own modem with Comcast Internet

Ensure your modem is compatible with Xfinity services before beginning. Check the Comcast website or contact support to verify compatibility.

Step 1

Unboxing & Equipment

Unbox your modem and gather the power adapter and Ethernet cables. Keep your Comcast account number and credentials handy.

Step 2

Disconnect Old Gear

Unplug your existing modem or router from the power outlet and remove all connected cables.

Step 3

Physical Connection

Connect the coaxial cable from your wall to the "Cable In" port on the modem. Plug in the power and wait a few minutes for initialization.

Step 4

Network Connection

Connect an Ethernet cable from the modem to your computer or the WAN/Internet port of your router.

Step 5

Activation

Open a web browser. The Xfinity activation page should appear. Follow the prompts using your account info to activate the new hardware.

Step 6

Final Testing

Once you see the confirmation message, test your connection by visiting a few websites to ensure stability.
