the owl stitched from midnight rain

She came down with the weather,
feathers sewn of silver thread,
each raindrop a small lantern
hung along the dark.

The forest held its breath.
The moon, unblinking, kept the watch
while midnight stitched and stitched —
an owl, unhurried, out of rain.
